Position Summary:
Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Peer Support Worker utilizes a client-centered, recovery-oriented, mental health service delivery model. Using the principles of client-centered care within the context of an interdisciplinary team approach, the Peer Support Worker will advocate, support clients with chronic mental illness and connect clients to resources within the community. The Peer Support Worker complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Standards for the hospital and is proactive in promoting a safe work environment.
Qualifications:
1-2 years of related experience in psychiatry - preferred
Knowledge of the recovery process and the ability to facilitate recovery using established standardized mental health processes
A valid driver’s license is required as some driving and/or transportation of clients may be required
Knowledge of local support groups and community resources
Ability to assist clients in recognizing and developing coping mechanisms to deal with symptoms of mental illness, and social stigma
Experience in developing treatment plans based on each clients identified goals an asset
Ability to work within a collaborative team environment
Excellent communication skills; Proficiency in French language is an asset
Education and/or Certification:
Psychology or Social Services degree – preferred
